Grading Scale for 20 Questions

Percent and letter grade for every score on a 20-question test.

On a 20-question test, each question is worth 5 points. This chart uses a standard plus/minus scale (A- at 90%, B- at 80%, C- at 70% and D- at 60%), so "an A" here means A- or better. Students need 18 right for an A, 16 for a B, 14 for a C and 12 for a D. They can miss 2 questions and still get an A, or 4 and still get a B.

  • A18+ rightA- or better
  • B16+ rightB- or better
  • C14+ rightC- or better
  • D12+ rightD- or better

At a glance

  • Some exact grades never come up on this test (B+, C+ and D+), because each question moves the score 5 points.
  • Of the 21 possible scores, 3 scores earn an A, 2 a B, 2 a C, 2 a D and 12 an F.
  • The lowest score that isn't an F is 12 right (60%), a D-.

Examples

  • 19 out of 20 is 95% (A)
  • 17 out of 20 is 85% (B)
  • 14 out of 20 is 70% (C-)
